Victor Liu, Dean of Learning Resources at WCC and the current chair of Michigan Library Consortium Board, has been re-elected by member libraries to the Board for another 3-year term through December 2010.
Headquartered in Lansing, Michigan Library Consortium is a statewide library cooperative consisting of over 500 multi-type libraries ranging in size from university research libraries to school libraries.
Sandy McCarthy, WCC Librarian, and Mike Ugorowski, Mott Community College Librarian, will be presenting “Research Help Now, A Virtual Combination, or Librarians, Libraries and Technology” at the ETOM 2007 Fall Conference, October 12, 2007 at Mott Community College in Flint.
The presentation will discuss the history of the Michigan Virtual Reference Service Collaborative as well as a live demonstration of the virtual reference software.
Sandy McCarthy, faculty librarian at WCC Bailey Library, has recently been selected to serve on the Reference, Resource Sharing & Collections Members Forum at Michigan Library Consortium (MLC). Sandy will serve a two-year term from January 2006 to December 2007.
Michigan Library Consortium is composed of over 650 member libraries involved in statewide collaboration and resource-sharing. The Forum in which Sandy will serve advises MLC on library trends and needs in reference and collection development.
Sandy’s selection continues to underscore WCC Bailey Library’s visibility in statewide activities affecting and benefiting Michigan libraries and residents. Victor Liu, Dean of Learning Resources, served on the original MeL (Michigan Electronic Library) Union Catalog Policies Committee to design the database structure and standardize the system design, and Gwen Evans, Director of Access Services, is currently serving a two year term on the MeL Resource Sharing Policies Committee.
Linda Rosser, formerly in Financial Services, joined the Learning Resource Division as the Assistant to the Dean on May 31st.
Patrons borrowing materials or using Reserve, Interlibrary Loan, or other department services will see these new faces in Access Services as of Fall 2005: Lynn Schwab (Circulation Specialist); William Rutger (Loans Specialist); Ann Sievers Dwyer and Lana Boroditsch (PT Library Assistants, nights); and Tiffany Miller (PT Library Assistant, Sundays).
Ronald Colman, Julianne Smith, and Cathy Whitaker have joined the part-time substitute Reference Librarian rotation this fall.
